Your donation will be used to provide free housing, food, clothing, medical care, case management services and, job training to clients of Mercy Housing and Shelter Corp. who want to live independently. Eradicating homelessness is not only important for the individuals and families who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness, but for the health of the communities we live in.

DONATIONS MADE BY CREDIT CARD/DEBIT CARD

You are entering a secure area of the website that will require you to fill out a simple profile and create a password. You will only be asked to fill this out once and it is done for your own protection. You can also come back at any time and track the status of your gift, as well as print receipts for tax purposes.

We have provided several ways to donate. These include debit from your checking or savings account, credit card or personal check. You may make a one-time gift, or make your donation through scheduled payments from your checking, savings or credit card accounts.

The actual transfer of funds may take anywhere between 2-5 business days. All donations will be acknowledged by Mercy Housing and Shelter Corp. Donations may only be made in U.S. currency. Mercy Housing and Shelter Corp. will only share your information with the companies providing this payment service. We require that these companies protect your information and use it only to provide the services we ask them to perform.

  5. Enter the donation information as requested – checking debit or credit card
  6. Review the information and submit, or edit as necessary
  7. When it’s complete, a receipt will pop up for you to print if you desire.  You’ll also hear from Mercy’s development office with an official letter of thanks! Your letter may be sent by mail or e-mail, please let us know how you want to receive it.

DONATIONS MADE BY CASH OR CHECK

Donations to Mercy Housing and Shelter Corp can be received by cash or check, made payable to the MHSC and sent to our office at 211 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford, CT 06106.
All donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law, and a letter of receipt will be sent to you for your tax purposes.
Donations made in the name of another person - to celebrate an occasion, honor a birth, remember someone at the time of their passing or anniversary of a death - may be made to the same address. If you would like an acknowledgement of the gift sent to someone, please provide that information as well. For questions about donating a cash or check, and an acknowledgement of your gift, please call our development office at (860) 808-2036.


DONATE BY MAKING A GIFT OF SECURITIES, LIFE INSURANCE or BEQUEST
If the stock certificate is held by a bank or broker, the trust officer or broker can usually transfer the stock directly to Mercy Housing and Shelter Corp through a direct transfer of certificate (DTC) upon receiving written instructions from the account owner.

You also may name us as a beneficiary of your life insurance or your will. You or the trust officer or broker may contact our finance director at (860) 808-2033 for further information. Please contact the development office at (860) 808-2036 regarding specific directions on how to acknowledge your gift.

GIFTS IN KIND
It is possible to do something about the problems of homelessness. At Mercy Housing and Shelter, it is our mission as counselors, educators, administrators, to help those in need. We do this by helping them get what they need through their own accomplishments. Key to this are the core values of respect, compassion and responsibility.

List of our clients’ needs

Toiletries
Toiletry items are an on-going need at Mercy Housing and Shelter programs, especially for the Friendship Center where people can come off the street to take a shower, get clean used clothing and have a hot meal. Travel-size soap, deodorant, combs, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, shaving cream and shampoo are needed for Friendship Center clients.
Women also need feminine supplies.

Twin Sheet Sets, Pillowcase, Blankets and New Pillows

Clean and gently used or new twin sheet sets, pillowcases, blankets, comforters, new pillows and towels, are needed for transitional residents at Mercy Housing and Shelter.

Clothing
Men need undershirts, socks (white), thermal long underwear, sweaters, sweatshirts and sweatpants in XL and XXL sizes.
Men and children need winter boots, hats, gloves and coats in all sizes.
Men need suits and sport coats, nearly new dress shoes in all sizes.

Food
Coffee, tea, cocoa, cereal, pasta, rice, sauces, meat and dairy items are most needed.  

Miscellaneous
Men and women need umbrellas, baseball caps, bingo sets and gift cards for CVS, Dunkin’ Donuts, Marshall’s, Shaw’s, Stop & Shop, Target, Walgreens and Wal-Mart, and pre-paid phone cards and bus passes.


Have You Considered Matching Your Gift to Mercy?

Increase the value of your contribution to Mercy Housing and Shelter with a corporate matching gift. Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contribution made by their employees as part of the corporate mission to support their communities.

Contact your employer’s human resource office and ask for a matching gift form. Some companies even offer the form online for your convenience. Fill out your portion of the form and mail it to us with your donation to:
