On-going Opportunities in Hartford and Middletown
Cook and Serve
MHSC is looking for volunteers and/or civic groups to help out in several areas. Each and every day we turn to our wonderful volunteers to help serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at our meals program. Especially need lunch provided and served on Saturdays. If you are interested give us a call at 808-2040.
Requirements: Groups must be 4 to 6 people, over the age of 16, or 15 with adult supervision.
Life Skills Volunteers
Our newly created Job/Life Skills Resource Center is looking for volunteers to help teach life skills, ie. teach a knitting class, explain how to balance a checkbook, etc. These positions are flexible and may be easily worked into your schedule.

Middletown, Ongoing Opportunity
Provide, cook and serve meals for the 70 wonderful residents of Shepherd Home Transitional Living facility in Middletown. This group enjoys having volunteers come in to provide, cook and serve meals each week. You may pick the menu and the meal.
Requirements: Groups must be 4 to 6 people, over the age of 16 or ages 14-15 with adult supervision.
Mercy House
Mercy House is a 24-hour, secure nine-bed group home with extensive support services for formerly homeless adults with disabilities who are infected with HIV/AIDS in the Hartford area.
Middletown Transitional Living Program - Shepherd Home
The Middletown Transitional Living Program is a 70-bed transitional housing facility providing extensive support services for formerly homeless adults of Greater Middletown, many with disabilities, for up to 24 months so they can regain their independence, self-sufficiency and permanent housing.
St. Elizabeth House - The Friendship Center
Provides over 200 meals twice a day for homeless, men, women and children in the greater Hartford community. The Friendship Center also has a clothing available for each of our clients to receive clean clothes on a daily basis. We provide showers for our clients along with nursing services for anyone who needs to seek out medical attention. Mercy Housing and Shelter has case management services available for any client that seeks their services. These case mangers work with the clients to help them obtain entitlements or housing. Mercy Housing and Shelter offers intensive on-site support services delivered on the Recovery-based methodology promoting stability and community integration.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Providing, cooking and serving meals (breakfast and lunch) six days a week. Organizing food drives. Organizing drives for toiletries and warm winter clothing.
Supportive Housing Services, Scattered Site
Mercy House is a 24-hour, secure nine-bed group home with extensive support services for formerly homeless adults with disabilities in the Hartford Area. Mercy Housing and Shelter offers intensive on-site support services delivered on the Recovery-based methodology promoting stability and community integration. The Community program provides scattered-site housing for 50+ homeless individuals and their families with disabilities in the Greater Hartford and Middletown area.
St. Elizabeth House, Blended Program
Provides single-site permanent housing for previously homeless Hartford-area adults with disabilities. This also includes individuals who were dealing with substance abuse issues. Mercy Housing and Shelter offers intensive on-site support services delivered on the Recovery-based methodology promoting stability and community integration.
